The Ketotarian Diet is a loosely vegetarian version of the popular Ketogenic Diet. It promises to help you burn fat and promote weight loss. Because it emphasizes eating only low-fructose fruits and vegetables, plant-based fats, and restricts most animal protein except for eggs, fish, shellfish, and ghee, you may miss out on essential nutrients.

 

The diet was popularized by Will Cole, a chiropractor and functional medicine practitioner @drwillcole but little research has been done on the Ketotarian Diet specifically. There are studies which suggest that the Ketogenic Diet, which has been used for over 100 years to treat epilepsy and other seizure disorders and may also prevent and treat Alzheimer’s disease. The Ketogenic Diet is highly anti-inflammatory and may aid inflammatory diseases such as type 2 diabetes and heart diseases.
